Our surveyor recently returned to a domestic property, where we had completed our works some weeks ago; the site manager had asked him to collect a bottle of champagne kindly left by the client. Although still some way from finishing, it is clear now that the creative thinking of the client and her design team are coming to fruition.
This is a house in Lancashire with stunning views across the countryside of North West of England hill country. The image below is of a bay area at the end of a large open kitchen and dining area, with sweeping curves around the bay ceiling to facilitate the fixing of curtains, and in the ceiling to wall intersection a little higher, a bespoke plaster cornice, made to match the existing plaster cornice.
This is something of a speciality with Whitechapel Art Plaster Co Ltd where a contemporary design concept is melded with an original feature to produce the high quality finishes which reflect the past, but showcase creativity in the present, and which in time may well inspire another’s vision of the future.
With plaster cornice, coving, plaster panel moulds and curves the team at Whitechapel Art Plaster Co Ltd can help produce these high end aesthetic finishes.
Above can be seen the first floor area with an Alison rail; which is a moulding introduced on a ceiling further in than the final member of a plaster cornice to form an inner perimeter which enhances the appearance of an original feature, though quite often the Alison rail is an original feature.
Also; some of these traditional and historically significant buildings have thick walls with deep window reveals which facilitates further embellishing finishing opportunities as with the panels formed in the window above. Panel moulds and Alison rails can also be incorporated into designs where the finishes need to look like an original feature, but at the same time there are requirements for fire proofing and fire breaks, needing to be incorporated into the building and finished process.
The above image shows an upper floor bedroom adjacent to the entrance to an en-suite with sections of the original plaster cornice in the building made good seamlessly, the Alison rail again, and the plaster panel moulds which we have fitted in accordance with the design teams requirements to produce finishes which are a joy to encounter, even before the final decorative finishes to the heritage and ornamental plaster designs have been completed.
In summary; this is what we at Whitechapel Art Plaster Co Ltd try to do, and deliver, as well as is practicably possible; to preserve worthy and well thought out ideas of the past, with the innovation of modernity. High end quality finishes built off a solid foundation of heritage, restoration, and overall longevity; by way of intelligent and experiential compatibility.
